Butt & Electrofusion welding

Butt welding

Butt welding is a welding technique used to join PE (polyethelene) pipes together. The join is made by using hot plates to melt the ends of the pipes, then joining them together under pressure. PE pipes are commonly used for water, sewer, storm water and power ducts instead of PVC pipes.

Electrofusion welding

Electrofusion (fusion) welding is a method of joining plastic pipes using special fittings which have built-in electric heating elements. The pipes to be joined are firstly cleaned before an electrofusion fitting is installed. Voltage is then applied for a fixed amount of time depending on the fitting used. The built in heater coils melt the inside and outside of the pipe and the two ends are joined together.

KB Contractors are experienced in both methods of pipe welding and provide pipe welding services to projects throughout Dunedin and Mosgiel. Contact us today to discuss your pipe welding requirements.
